GRE Score Percentile Calculator — 2026–27

Background.

A GRE scaled score and a GRE percentile rank answer different questions. The scaled score records performance on a particular measure, while the percentile rank locates that score within a defined group of test takers. This calculator looks up Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning or Analytical Writing scores in Tables 1B and 1C of the ETS GRE Guide to the Use of Scores, 2026–27 edition.

The reference data cover everyone in the table’s applicable group who tested from July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2025. ETS defines these ranks as the percentage of test takers who obtained scores lower than the selected score. That wording differs from sources that use “at or below,” so the result repeats ETS’s lower-than definition rather than silently changing it.

Choose the measure exactly as it appears on the score report. Verbal and Quantitative scores run from 130 through 170 in one-point increments. Analytical Writing runs from 0 through 6 in half-point increments. Each measure has its own distribution: a 160 Verbal score and a 160 Quantitative score do not share a percentile simply because their scaled numbers match.

The lookup preserves blank cells in the ETS tables as “Not reported.” ETS explains that those cells occur where percentile information was not reported because there were no test takers above or below the specified scale-score range. The calculator does not replace those blanks with zero, less than one, or an extrapolated estimate.

Percentiles are not percentage-correct scores. Verbal and Quantitative raw performance is equated onto the 130–170 scales, and Analytical Writing is scored separately on its six-point scale. Nor is a percentile an admission probability. ETS recommends holistic use and cautions against overreliance on a single cut score; programmes may weight measures differently and consider records, recommendations, experience, writing and other evidence.

The edition and reference period are printed in every result because percentile distributions change. Do not mix this table with an older score-report edition or subject-test percentiles. This tool covers only the three GRE General Test measures, not Mathematics, Physics or Psychology Subject Tests, not MBA-only comparison tables, and not conversions to GMAT or LSAT scores.

Use the official score report when an institution requests a reportable result. This calculator is an exact public-table lookup for interpretation and checking. It cannot validate a score report, select which attempt to send, determine whether a programme considers the GRE, or decide what score is competitive for a particular department.

A GRE percentile rank is the percentage of test takers in the stated ETS reference group who scored lower than a selected scaled score on the same General Test measure.

The formula.

The selected measure chooses ETS Table 1B or 1C, then the entered score identifies the exact row. No interpolation, curve fitting or cross-measure conversion is performed. Verbal 160 maps to 82, Quantitative 160 maps to 50, and Analytical Writing 4.0 maps to 63. In ETS terminology, each value is the percent of the reference group scoring lower.
