This calculator counts the exact number of days from any starting date to the next December 25 — Christmas Day. Enter a date and it returns the whole-day countdown, along with the same figure in weeks and the specific year the countdown targets. If your chosen date falls on or before December 25 of that year, the countdown runs to that year's Christmas; if it falls on December 26 or later, the countdown automatically rolls forward to the following year's Christmas instead.

All arithmetic is anchored to UTC midnight rather than your local time zone, which avoids the classic off-by-one error that can creep in right at midnight across daylight-saving transitions or when a server and a browser disagree about the local calendar day. The date you enter is treated as a fixed input rather than read from your device's clock, so the same input date always produces exactly the same countdown, every time.

A days-until-Christmas countdown measures the whole-day distance between a chosen date and the next occurrence of December 25 on the Gregorian calendar, the fixed calendar date on which Christmas Day is observed every year. Because December 25 is a fixed calendar date rather than a floating holiday, the countdown is pure calendar arithmetic: no lookup table of variable holiday dates is required, only a comparison between the chosen date and December 25 of the current or following year.

The formula.

The calculator converts your chosen date to a UTC-midnight timestamp, then compares it against December 25 of the same year, also at UTC midnight. If your date is on or before that December 25, the countdown target is that year's Christmas. If your date is December 26 or later, the target rolls forward to December 25 of the following year. The day count is the difference between the two UTC timestamps divided by the number of milliseconds in a day (86,400,000), rounded to the nearest whole day. Anchoring both ends at UTC midnight means the count is immune to local time-zone offsets and daylight-saving transitions.
