Distance estimate equals engine hours times your assumed average speed. It is not odometer mileage, engine wear, or a manufacturer service-interval conversion.

Background.

Engine hours measure elapsed running time, while an odometer measures traveled distance. They are not inherently convertible. This page performs only the kinematic estimate distance = time × user-supplied average speed. For 100 engine hours at an average of 25 mph across all those hours, the estimate is 2,500 miles or 4,023.36 kilometers.

Choose the average speed from fleet records or other defensible evidence. Hours spent idling contribute zero travel distance, while moving hours contribute at their actual speeds. If the hour meter combines both and you do not know the average across the complete interval, the result is only a scenario. Do not copy a generic miles-per-hour factor from another vehicle.

Some manufacturers publish vehicle-specific idle-hour equivalencies for a particular maintenance purpose. Ford, for example, published an approximate 33 miles per idle hour rule for oil-change scheduling on specified police/fleet vehicles, while also stating that the odometer does not accumulate during idle. That is not actual distance and is not embedded here. Follow the exact equipment owner's service schedule; many machines use engine-hour intervals directly.
